Licence terms

What your licence lets you do,
and where our part ends.

These are the terms under which we license BTS Toolbox (the Android app and the web app at toolbox.btspower.co.uk) and SLD Platform (the web app at sld.btspower.co.uk). They are written in plain English on purpose. There is no separate legal version hiding behind this one; this page is the agreement.

Version 1.0, 16 September 2026. Applies to every licence key issued from this date.

What you get A personal, per-device licence to use the software for your engineering work, for as long as the key you were issued is valid.
What you must not do Copy, share, resell, reverse-engineer or rebuild the software or its content, or pass licence keys to anyone else.
Where our part ends The software is an engineering aid. A competent person checks every output before it is relied on, and our liability is capped at what you paid.

1. Who this is between

This agreement is between you (the person or organisation the licence is issued to) and BTS Power, contactable at info@btspower.co.uk ("we", "us"). If you request a licence on behalf of your employer or a client, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for them, and "you" then means that organisation as well.

2. How you accept these terms

You accept these terms by doing any of the following: requesting a licence key, activating a key in the software, or using the software once it is activated. Every licence key we issue is issued subject to these terms, and the email that carries your key says so. If you do not agree, do not activate the key; email us and we will cancel it.

The free parts of the software (installing the app, and the Survey mode and sharing in SLD Platform) are covered by these terms too, minus the parts about paid keys.

3. What the licence is

  • Personal and per device. A key is tied to one named user and one device code (one handset, or one browser profile on one machine). It does not float between people or devices.
  • Non-exclusive and non-transferable. We license the same software to others, and you cannot pass your licence on, sell it, or lend it.
  • Time-limited. Every key carries an expiry date. The software tells you when that is. A 7-day trial key is a full licence for seven days and then stops.
  • Movable on request. Changed handset, reinstalled your browser, left the company laptop behind? Email us with the new device code and we will re-issue your key. We may ask you to confirm the old device is no longer in use.
  • Yours to stop at any time. Remove the licence from the device and stop using the software. Fees already paid are not refunded unless we agreed otherwise in writing.

4. What you must not do

The software, its calculation methods, its data tables and curves, its symbol library, its document templates, its screen designs, its text and its name are our work and stay our property. Copyright in all of it belongs to us. The licence lets you use it; it does not give you any part of it. In particular you must not, and must not help anyone else to:

  1. Copy, publish, host, mirror or redistribute the app, the APK file or the web app, in whole or in part, beyond installing it on the device it is licensed for.
  2. Share, publish, sell or lend a licence key, or activate a key on a device other than the one it was issued for.
  3. Decompile, disassemble, reverse-engineer, or otherwise attempt to recover the source code or the internal workings of the software, except to the limited extent that UK law expressly allows regardless of this agreement.
  4. Extract, scrape, transcribe or reproduce the calculation logic, relay and device data, curve data, symbol library, document layouts or reference content in order to reuse them outside the software, whether in a spreadsheet, another application or a document you distribute.
  5. Use the software, or anything learned from it, to build, train or improve a product or service that competes with it.
  6. Remove or alter any copyright notice, branding, version stamp or licence mechanism, or try to bypass, disable or defeat the licence check.
  7. Let anyone who is not the named licensee use the software on your device as a way of sharing one licence between several people.

Outputs you produce with the software (a switching schedule, a relay setting sheet, a drawing of your own site) are yours. This section is about the software itself, not what you make with it.

5. It is an engineering aid, not an authority

Both tools exist to make competent engineers faster. They do not replace the engineer, the manufacturer's data, or the safety rules in force on your site. Specifically:

  • You check the outputs. Every setting, calculation, test interpretation, drawing and schedule the software produces must be verified by a competent person against the manufacturer's documentation, the site records and the relevant standards before it is relied on.
  • Switching schedules are drafts until authorised. A schedule generated by SLD Platform is a proposal built from the network you drew. It must be checked, amended where needed and authorised by an Authorised Person under your site's safety rules before any switching takes place. We do not know your site, its state on the day, or its rules.
  • Reference content is background, not instruction. Guidance notes, lookup tables and procedures inside the software are provided to help you, and may be out of date or not applicable to your equipment. The manufacturer's current documentation wins.
  • You are responsible for your input. The software works from what you tell it. A wrong ratio, a mis-drawn ring or a stale normal state produces a wrong answer, and the software cannot know.

6. Warranty and liability

The software is supplied as it is. We work hard to make it correct and we fix what we find, but we do not promise it is free of errors, that it suits every purpose, or that it will run without interruption on every device. Any warranty or condition that the law would otherwise imply is excluded as far as the law allows.

What we are not liable for. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business or contracts, loss of or damage to data, or damage to plant or equipment, arising from use of or reliance on the software or its outputs, however that loss arises.

The cap. Our total liability to you under or in connection with this agreement, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the licence fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim. For a trial or free use, that is nil.

What nothing here changes. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer, where they apply, are not affected.

7. Your data

We hold one record per licence: the name you gave us and the device code. Everything else, your sites, drawings, settings and schedules, stays on your device and never reaches us. The full detail, including how your IT department can verify that, is on the Your data page, which forms part of these terms.

8. Updates and changes

We release updates from time to time. The Android app only checks for them when you tap the button; the web apps pick up new versions when you next open them online. Updates are covered by the same licence.

We may update these terms. The version and date are shown at the top of this page, and a material change is noted in the software's change log. The terms in force when your key was issued apply to that key; using a key issued after a change means accepting the version current at that time.

9. Ending the licence

We may revoke a licence if you break section 4, do not pay for it, or if we reasonably believe the key has been shared or compromised. The software includes a revocation mechanism and a revoked key stops working on that device. We will tell you why and give you the chance to put it right where that makes sense.

When the licence ends, for any reason, you must stop using the software and delete any copies you hold. Sections 4, 5, 6 and 10 continue to apply after the licence ends.

10. The legal bits

  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that either of us may seek an injunction to protect intellectual property anywhere it is being infringed.
  • Whole agreement. These terms and the Your data page are the whole agreement between us about the software. Anything else, written or spoken, is not part of it unless we both sign it.
  • If part of this fails. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • No waiver. If we do not act on a breach straight away, we have not given up the right to act on it later.
  • No assignment. You cannot transfer this agreement to anyone else. We may transfer it to a successor business that takes on the software, and we will tell you if we do.

The short version

Use it for your work, on your device, with your own judgement on top. Do not copy it, share it or rebuild it. Check every output before you act on it. If something is unclear, ask us before you assume: info@btspower.co.uk.
